Are You Ready to Stop Smoking NOW?
You know cigarette smoking is harmful. That’s one of the reasons you’ve decided to quit smoking, and take a look at this page. If I may, let me put your smoking habit in a different, and perhaps stark light.
Each cigarette you smoke contains more than 4,500 chemicals including carbon monoxide, DDT, formaldehyde, methane, and tar. And are you aware that nicotine is a pesticide? That’s, right, it’s used to kill living things (and you’re a living thing!).
If the average smoker were to smoke one pack a day, taking 10 drags a cigarette, for 35 years of smoking that would equal 2,555,000 “injections” of these more than 4,500 chemicals. That’s more than two and a half million does of chemicals, many of which are known to be lethal.
Is it a wonder that cigarette smoking is harmful to your health, even deadly?
Your body was born as a non-smoker, it wants you to quit smoking. Your health and future want you to quit. Your family and friends want you to quit. Are you ready to stop smoking for ever, and enjoy a life of health, well-being, and freedom from worry, stigma, and self-nagging?
Do You Need More Reasons to Quit?
Some of us are just a bit more hard-headed than others. If you need a few more convincing reasons as to why you want to stop smoking today, not tomorrow, checkout the “Smoking Research Findings” link on the right. It contains research findings on the affect of smoking on health.
Still wavering? Then see the “Graphic Reasons to Quit”. Warning! The images of what smoking might do to your body, if you don’t ever quit can be disturbing. Given such reasons can you afford not to stop?
Another Reason to Stop Smoking: The Cost…
Surely you’ve noticed how expensive cigarettes are. But have you really tallied the cost to you the actual cost of your cigarette smoking. It’s sobering to become aware of the cost:
How Your Hard-Earned Money Goes Up in Smoke
|# Cigarettes Smoked Per Day||Daily Cost||Cost/Year||5 Years||
That’s literally money going up in smoke. Few of us can afford that during these trying economic times. Additionally the cost doesn’t include the cost to your health, longevity, and fulfillment. And the costs to you are only going to go up.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford to let the money I might spend for a new car or a house downpayment go up in smoke, while Big Tobacco executives sit back on their yachts bought with the killing they made off of meand you.
(By the way, you may be able to receive an IRS Tax Credit for the cost of my Smoking Cessation program. See the “Hypnosis IRS Tax Credit” link on the right.
You really CAN Stop Smoking Today
I know you can quit smoking. I did. I used to smoke two packs a day of Salem cigarettes. I did so for 16 years. I quit smoking more than 30 years ago.
I know what it’s like to contemplate stopping. I know what it’s like to be afraid you can’t. I also know (and my clients too) that you CAN! I know what it’s like to never, ever even think of cigarettes. You CAN too!
What do you think is the most effective way to stop? According to a 1998 study, it’s not cold turkey: only 8 percent of the people who stop by cold turkey are successful. That method is a turkey.
How about patches or Xyban? That’s drug replacement therapy. It’s no more effective than methodone is in ending a heroin addiction. Only 28% of patch users successfully quit smoking. (Use the “Smoking Research Findings” link on the right to learn about research that indicates Chantx, nicotine gum and lozenges may be hazardous to your health).
On the other hand, the 1998 study found that hypnosis generally has a 60% success rate, although individual practitioners like myself can experience a significantly higher rate of success. (If you find anyone who advertizes a 100% success rate, stay clear, for there’s no such thing! Moreover that person should have retired a multi-millionaire.)
In fact, hypnosis is such an effective method of stopping smoking that the British Medical Association authorizes hypnosis as the method of choice for smoking cessation, and the English government actually pays the fee for hypnosis smoking cessation programs.
That’s a pretty strong endorsement of how powerful stop smoking hypnosis can be!
Keep in mind that of course hypnosis isn’t a magic wand. Your success depends also on your motivation, how ready you are to stop. It’s important that you really want to quit.
Therefore, much as I would enjoy the income, I discourage parents and partners from giving a gift of my smoking cessation program to their loved ones. The loved one really must want to quit.
If YOU really want to stop, I can help you begin your new life as non-smoker.
And don’t worry that you may have smoked so long that it’s impossible to quit. I often successfully work with smokers who have been smoking as long as 30, 40 years. A client of mine stopped smoking after 72 years of smoking!!! See some of the testimonials at the right.
Are you ready to quit smoking?
Here’s a way to determine whether you are ready to quit.
The American Lung Association book, 7 Steps to a Smoke-Free Life, asks six questions to determine whether you’re ready to stop smoking. Count how many “yes” answers you can give to these questions:
1. Do you believe that smoking is dangerous to your health?
2. Besides health reasons, do you have other personal reasons for quitting?
3. Are you committed to stopping, even though it may be tough at first?
4. Is it a #1 priority for you to quit smoking?
5. Are your family, friends, and coworkers willing to help you quit smoking?
6. Have you planned specific strategies to support your non-smoking?
If you can answer yes to four or more of these questions, then you’re ready to stop. And, if you’re ready to quit then consider my:

Detailed Discussion of my Portland Stop Smoking Program
Initial Stop Smoking Now! Hypnosis Session In this 2-hour session, you become a non-smoker. Come to session, prepared to leave smoking in your past forever. Prior to session, be sure you’ve thrown away your cigarettes, and tossed your ashtrays, because you won’t need them anymore.
Initially, I interview you to learn about your individual smoking habit. What motivates you to smoke? What motivates you to quit?. Given what I’ve learned, then I hypnotize you to become a non-smoker. Also I create a recording of your hypnosis, so that by listening to the recording every day until the second session, you will compound the power of your hypnosis experience.
Remain a Non-Smoker for Life Hypnosis Follow-Up Session If you have ever quit smoking before, you know that there is a difference between stopping smoking and staying stopped for the rest of your life. That’s why I include this second 1-hour session in my stop smoking program.
We schedule the session about 14 to 17 days later when research shows new habits may begin to weaken. The intention of this hypnosis experience is that you remain a non-smoker for life! Of course, I also create a recording of this hypnosis, and ask that you listen to it for one week.
A Recording of Each of Your Hypnosis Sessions I make a recording of the work that we do in each of your hypnosis sessions. That’s two recordings in all. Listening to your recordings will bring you into trance. It’s like having an hypnosis appointment with me each day. It compounds the power of the work which we did in person.
Guarantee of Support While I cannot guarantee your own motivation to be a non-smoker, I can guarantee my support of your new life as a non-smoker. This is my guarantee of no-cost support. If during the following 12 calendar months, you feel like you might need hypnotic reinforcement for your being a non-smoker, you are welcome to come in for a hypnotherapy session at no cost.
What can you look forward to as a non-smoker?
When you stop smoking, you give your body an opportunity for it to apply is remarkable innate intelligence to healing. What kind of healing can you look forward to when you quit smoking? According to the American Cancer Society:
20 minutes after you stop: Your blood pressure drops to a level close to that before the last cigarette. The temperature of your hands and feet increases to normal. Your pulse rate drops.
8 hours after quitting: The carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal. The oxygen level in your blood returns to normal.
24 hours after quitting: Your chance of a heart attack decreases.
48 hours after quitting: nerve endings start to regrow. Your ability to smell and taste is enhanced.
2 weeks to 3 months after quitting: Your circulation improves and your lungs perform up to 30 percent better. Walking becomes easier.
1 to 9 months after quitting: Coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue, and shortness of breath decrease; cilia (tiny hair like structures that move mucus out of the lungs) regain normal function in the lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce infection.
1 year after quitting: The excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker’s.
5 to 15 years after quitting: Your stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker.
10 years after quitting: The lung cancer death rate is 50 percent lower than it is for continuing smokers. The risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas also decreases. The risk of ulcer decreases.
15 years after quitting: The risk of coronary heart disease is that of a nonsmoker’s. The risk of death returns to nearly the level of people who have never smoked.
Are certain times easier to quit smoking than others?
Yes! There are easier times to quit. It’s helpful to keep in mind that you don’t need additional stress during the week or two that you have begun your life as a non-smoker.
If you’re planning a wedding, divorce, a job change, selling your business, or experiencing or expecting an unusual stressor in your life, my suggestion is that you wait to quit. Wait until your life has settled down. Your life doesn’t need the additional stress of becoming a non-smoker; and your new non-smoking life doesn’t need the additional stress of unusual life circumstances.
There are also easier ways to stop smoking. If your spouse or partner smokes, it may be harder for you to stop. If your he/she is unwilling to quit with you, make firm agreements ahead of time concerning how you expect support of your determination to be healthy as a non-smoker.
